Debby was born in Hong Kong. She moved to America when she was 7 years old. She took the name Debby shortly after arriving in America to help her more easily "fit in". Her Chinese birth name is Wai Yu. As she was trying to decide on a name and a logo for her yoga website, her husband happened to query on the word "yoga" in a Chinese dictionary . . . both Debby and her husband were astounded to discover that the Chinese character for "yoga" is the exact same character for Yu.
